Michael Kohler Portland TherapistI am a therapist with over 40 years of clinical experience. Through those years I have helped hundreds of individuals and couples with a very wide range of issues and topics. Some of these include: Depression, Manic Depression, Anxiety & Fears, Emotional Disturbance, Anger Management, Divorce, Loss or Grief, Self Esteem, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Behavioral Issues, Coping Skills, Personality Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Entitlement, Relationship Challenges, Sleep Difficulties or Insomnia, Mid-Life Crisis & Post-Addiction Recovery.

Most of the folks who come to see me now have come at the recommendation of someone they know who has seen me previously. I consider my interpersonal style to be “Midwest direct” and people often come to see me because they have heard that I am a “straight shooter.” However, unlike Dr. Phil, ¬†I am in agreement with a colleague who has said “compassion is preferred to judgment.”

When we first meet, our initial task is twofold. Most importantly, we need to discover if there is a sense of “fit” between us. If there does not seem to be, I’ll work with you to find another therapist.

The other task is for us to develop the clearest picture possible of your unique concerns and your desired outcomes. Once that is done we create a path to where you want to be, and we begin to travel that path together until you get what you are wanting/needing.

Thank you very much for visiting my site. If you have the time to offer reactions to this site, I would very much appreciate any comments. I believe that a website, like all of us, should be considered an evolving journey.
